For some reason though, I'm still interested enough to check out the next book. She's supposed to be canny and ambitious, not ditzy but lucky.

I get she's an amateur sleuth, but come on. Sarah is pretty dumb sometimes, and that's frustrating. The very accurate details / specific mentions feel like product placement, like the author wrote the story in a generic setting and then Googled some brand names and major people / events to sprinkle into the story. I love the Era and setting, but still felt taken out of the story by historically inaccurate expressions and vocabulary.

I still love the main characters and am intrigued by their backgrounds and development. The narrator is still here and she's adequate but lackluster. I feel before getting halfway through we all knew who did what. Less impressive than book one, still enjoyable.
